FYNE LABS
On a tight turnaround, I conducted a six-day industrial research project for two-time Scottish EDGE finalists Fyne Labs to assess demand and identify the initial market for new app-builder product, Fysion.

Fysion is a cross-platform app-builder that enables low-code design and software deployment to desktop, web-apps and native iOS and Android platforms from a single codebase.
I ran flash market research and analysed existing user data to help identify the target user, then I ran and analysed structured interviews with target users and delivered a detailed commercial feasibility report to Fyne Labs.
Activities
Conducted a stakeholder interview with Andrew Williams, CEO of Fyne Labs.
Distilled and analysed Fyne Labs’ existing user data.
Conducted flash comparison of existing services in the fast-growing no-code, low-code and enterprise app-builder markets.
Created a flowchart navigating opportunities and threats to Fyne Labs within these markets. This formed a key resource for the team in identifying an overlapping target market (digital designers, startup-founders and self-starter developers).
Worked with the CEO together with designer Buteo and comms partner Lasercue to inform visuals and comms to reach out to users from this initial target market to participate in depth interviews. From the ensuing call-out we sourced interviews from seven professionals from the target market.
I conducted remote 45-minute one-to-one depth interviews and prototype tests with each of the participants.
Analysed the data by affinity mapping and empathy mapping in Miro.
Drafted report.

Result
This research validated the Fysion app’s commercial potential, and pointed toward new strategies for use of AI in the app-building process to:
make app development accessible for those with no coding experience.
enable experienced coders to innovate more freely.
speed up time to market exponentially for both types of app-creator, in the same solution.
The results of this research project validated the Fysion app’s commercial potential and helped to define the roadmap for the roll-out of Fysion.
